E3 2008 Nintendo Press Conference: A Short Review

E3 2008 Nintendo Conference

Watching Nintendo's E3 2008 press conference was like watching the events leading up to a major disaster in slow motion.  I knew what was coming, yet I couldn't take my eyes away from the train wreck taking place on screen.  I was compelled to watch the disaster through to completion.

To summarize Nintendo's conference, it was a bunch of annoying people who talked about games that nobody really cared about followed by the most cringe worthy "musical" performance.

Nintendo's upcoming games for the Wii and DS were essentially a middle finger to actual gamers who own their systems:

  • Shaun White Snowboarding
  • Animal Crossing: City Folk
  • Star Wars: Clone Wars
  • Rayman Raving Rabbits
  • Call of Duty: World at War
  • Guitar Hero on Tour: Decades
  • Spore Creatures
  • Pokemon Ranger
  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
  • Wii Sports Resort
  • Wii Music

None of these games incites any sort of excitement toward the future of the Wii.  It's as though they forgot that some people want to play a game that are not a compilation of mini games.

The demoing of Wii Music was the coup de grace for Nintendo, confirming all my fears of how truly disastrous this conference had been.  I'll leave you now with a video of Wii Music being demoed at E3. If you are too impatient to watch the entire thing, then I suggest you skip to 8:48 and watch from there.  Pay special attention to the applause - or lack thereof - at the end.

Sorry, flash is not available.
